If

If the man owned a whisky bar
he’d cut his booze with water
and hire a smaller man to hand it over,
but he’s not that man,
he’s a lawyer
and when he visits bars,
it’s to talk seriously about the law,
then slide lightly into sports and
jokes about the falling markets.

But if, let’s say, upon retirement
he were to become that man
and open the bar above,
would he uphold the law or
swallow the lure of larceny?  Perhaps neither
but scribble instead his fantasies,
as he wanders the halls of caprice.
