The Days Go Like This

When the days go like this,

faster than I can count,

I give in.

What good the screen

if there’s nothing

to discover behind it?

It renders you untrustworthy.

At least, uninteresting.

Think necessity. Importance

in the details. A life in the lock,

unlock, lock, unlock

pattern to beginning and completing

something seemingly straightforward

as a day. Those destined for weeks,

months, years. Measured or not,

time passes; we are all trapped

in the embrace of its hours.

The clock hung upon the wall mocks

as it tocks. Nothing

can be done about it.
