Le Dr Tacey M. Atsit­ty appar­tient à la tribu Diné et ses clans sont les suiv­ants : elle est Tsé­na­habiłnii (peu­ple de la roche endormie) et née pour Ta’neeszahnii (peu­ple enchevêtré). Son grand-père mater­nel est Tábąąhí (les gens du bord de l’eau) et son grand-père pater­nel est Hashk’áán­hadzóhí (les gens des fruits de yuc­ca alignés) de Cove, en Arizona.

Elle a rem­porté le Wis­con­sin Brit­ting­ham Prize for Poet­ry et a reçu le Louis Owens Award, la Tru­man Capote Cre­ative Writ­ing Fel­low­ship, le Cor­son-Brown­ing Poet­ry Prize, le Morn­ing Star Cre­ative Writ­ing Award et le Philip Fre­und Prize. Elle est tit­u­laire d’une licence de l’u­ni­ver­sité Brigham Young et de l’In­sti­tute of Amer­i­can Indi­an Arts, d’un mas­ter en écri­t­ure créa­tive de l’u­ni­ver­sité Cor­nell et d’un doc­tor­at en écri­t­ure créa­tive — poésie de l’u­ni­ver­sité d’É­tat de Floride.
