Le Dr Tacey M. Atsitty appartient à la tribu Diné et ses clans sont les suivants : elle est Tsénahabiłnii (peuple de la roche endormie) et née pour Ta’neeszahnii (peuple enchevêtré). Son grand-père maternel est Tábąąhí (les gens du bord de l’eau) et son grand-père paternel est Hashk’áánhadzóhí (les gens des fruits de yucca alignés) de Cove, en Arizona.
Elle a remporté le Wisconsin Brittingham Prize for Poetry et a reçu le Louis Owens Award, la Truman Capote Creative Writing Fellowship, le Corson-Browning Poetry Prize, le Morning Star Creative Writing Award et le Philip Freund Prize. Elle est titulaire d’une licence de l’université Brigham Young et de l’Institute of American Indian Arts, d’un master en écriture créative de l’université Cornell et d’un doctorat en écriture créative — poésie de l’université d’État de Floride.
